Why take the time — a whole half hour — to do Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT)?
I see it like brushing teeth to preserve their health, or trimming nails and hair. It is simply self-care.
Self-care
A calm you on the inside is a happy you on the outside. The “you” you want people to see, like and enjoy spending time with. The “you” you are stuck with all the time (lol), so love yourself and take care!
Why I Like Vibroacoustic Therapy
I personally struggled with taking time for myself. I was rewarded when I worked hard, tackled the to-do lists and showed up for others. Only in my mid-50s did I realize that self-care went beyond the basics of cleanliness. I was never one to do a spa day or get facials, or even take a soothing hot bath. Where many women spend time on their hair and make-up, I spend my time learning about things. But now I get it. It’s not just about the look. It’s about the feel.
I like that I can do vibroacoustic therapy fully clothed. If you meet me you will see I’m no fashionista so that statement is more about comparing it to undressing, having oil slathered on my body and being touched. VAT uses tactile transducers to move energy (low frequencies) deeply into your body, acting as a sensory cue of safety to the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in your body and it handles so many things like mood, digestion, heart rate and inflammation response — even bolstering and protecting brain function.
VAT Is for the Non-believers
You don’t have to believe in VAT because the reaction happens physically. Cells and tissue convert physical and mechanical forces into biochemical or electrical signals called mechanotransduction. VAT relies on mechanotransduction as sound waves set body parts and organs in motion — they resonate with the low frequencies coming out of the table. The result is lower blood pressure, increased circulation and a version of “runner’s high” as your body releases serotonin, endorphins and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Mmmmmmmm. Sounds good, right?
Ultimately, vibroacoustic therapy puts your body in a big calm (hat tip to Morcheeba), the rest-and-digest state. This state is important because it allows your body to heal naturally. It’s the opposite of being stressed and “catching” a cold or worse.
You take care of your body, so your body can take care of you. It’s a holistic approach to self-care.
VAT with Music Helps You Enjoy the Benefits of Meditation
Spending 30 minutes doing VAT gives me a chance to meditate. Let’s be honest, most of us struggle with meditating for even five minutes. Our Western world does not tout the benefits of meditation, but once I tried meditating, I saw how it allowed me to perform better and be centered, grounded and more in control of my emotions. The physical vibrations relax my body and deliver an immersive experience. The VAT music helps slow down my mind so I can just be.
When I take a half-hour to escape the world and tune into my body, I am rewarded with lower stress levels, better sleep and more energy. For me the effects of VAT last for days. It’s a no-brainer that the time it takes gives me back much more.
Pair VAT with Reiki
